Here is a list of the facts placed in the popcorn bags we handed out as prizes:

  • Rohypnol is not the only date rape drug; Ketamine, and GHB (liquid ecstasy) are also considered date rape drugs.
  • They are used on both men and women.
  • 1,825 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol-related unintentional injuries.
  •  More than 690,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking.
  • More than 97,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are victims of alcohol-related sexual assault or date rape.
  •  599,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 receive unintentional injuries while under the influence of alcohol.
  • About 25 percent of college students report academic consequences of their drinking including missing class, falling behind, doing poorly on exams or papers, and receiving lower grades overall.
  • More than 150,000 students develop an alcohol-related health problem and between 1.2 and 1.5 percent of students indicate that they tried to commit suicide within the past year due to drinking or drug use.
  •  The average male freshman, according to the Core Institute, which surveyed 33,379 undergrads on 53 U.S. campuses in 2005, consumes 7.39 drinks – a bottle of beer, glass of wine, shot or mixed drink – per week, while the average female has 3.86.
  • 31% of college students missed a class due to substance abuse,
  • some 159,000 of the nation’s current freshmen will drop out of school because of alcohol or drug use.
  • 300,000 of today’s college students will eventually die of alcohol-related causes
  • 159,000 of today’s first- year college students will drop out of school next year for alcohol- or other drug-related reasons
  • One night of heavy drinking can impair your ability to think abstractly for up to 30 days,
  • At least one out of five college students abandons safe sex practices when they’re drunk, even if they do protect themselves when they’re sober.
  • 60% of college women who are infected with STDs, including genital herpes and AIDS, report that they were under the influence of alcohol at the time they had intercourse with the infected person.
  • 55% of female students and 75% of male students involved in acquaintance rape admit to having been drinking or using drugs when the incident occurred.
  • 90% of all campus rapes occur when alcohol has been used by either the assailant or the victim.
  • As many as 70% of college students admit to having engaged in sexual activity primarily as a result of being under the influence of alcohol, or to having sex they wouldn’t have had if they had been sober.
  • Rohypnol comes as a pill that dissolves in liquids. Some are small, round, and white. Newer pills are oval and green-gray in color. When slipped into a drink, a dye in these new pills makes clear liquids turn bright blue and dark drinks turn cloudy. But this color change might be hard to see in a dark drink, like cola or dark beer, or in a dark room. Also, the pills with no dye are still available. The pills may be ground up into a powder.
  • GHB has a few forms: a liquid with no odor or color, white powder, and pill. It might give your drink a slightly salty taste. Mixing it with a sweet drink, such as fruit juice, can mask the salty taste.
  • Ketamine comes as a liquid and a white powder.
  • About four out of five college students drink alcohol.
  • About half of college students who drink, also consume alcohol through bring drinking.
